This peptide serves as a control for GRGDSP, a potent vasodilator. In studies done related to complement-mediated phagocytosis mechanisms, GRGESP was found to not inhibit the phagocytosis of complement-coated erythrocytes suggesting in fact, that RGDS is the vital sequence to cause the inhibitory effect, and that it is recognized by fibronectin receptor of human macrophages.
